Hi everyone. This started about 2 months ago. Cosmo, who is 12 and 110 lb black lab (and the love of my life) ruptured a disc in his neck when he got out of
the car one day after having minor surgery. He went lame in his front left leg. My vet put him on prednisone for 10 days in decreasing dose...and he recovered.
Yeah~. Put him on Rimadly to keep the inflammation down and he couldnt tolerate it. He then jumped off a step rather than walking down the 3 steps and a day
later he goes lame in the back leg on the left. Vet puts him back on the prednisone and it works again.
He is now on a low dose of prednisone daily (10 mg a day) and I've been researching ways of helping to alleviate some of the side effects. It is a wonderful medicine but has bad side effects in high doses. I did find a site that says vitiman C reduces some of the side effects. He isn't having horrible side effects at the lower dose, but still some are there like the drinking water and going to the bathroom more often.
Has anyone had this happen with thier dog? Being 12, I know I won't have him for much longer, but I want to try and keep him going as long as I can.
